Alexander City police arrest suspect in city’s latest homicide

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (WAKA) – Alexander City police have made an arrest in the city’s latest homicide.

It happened Monday in the 1200 block of J Street.

Once officers arrived, they found Marcus Deshawn Freemen, was a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Freeman was taken to Russell Medical Center for treatment where he later died from his injuries.

Police arrested 26-year-old Laderrion Rodrigas Benjamin, of Alpine, for murder.

Benjamin met with investigators at the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office where he turned himself in on the active warrant.

Benjamin is currently in the Tallapoosa County Jail where he will remain until he has a bond hearing at a later date.
