Montgomery Police Department holds promotion ceremony
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The Montgomery Police Department is recognizing some of its top officers with a promotion ceremony.
Today, at True Divine Baptist Church, Police Chief James Graboys gave congratulatory remarks to the officers for their achievements, thanking families for supporting their loved ones as they rise through the ranks of the department.
Several officers were promoted to corporal, sergeant, lieutenant or captain. Others were awarded for outstanding service.
“We are constantly bringing people in and we want to let people know there is opportunity here at the Montgomery Police Department to grow, to mature, and you can rise to the ranks, it is possible,” Capt. Christopher Turner told Action 8 News. “I started off as an officer in 2008 and here I am today being promoted to captain, so stay diligent, do what you’re supposed to do and good things do happen, so we are excited about that here.”
“As I step into this role, I don’t take this badge, this rank or this responsibility lightly. I understand that leadership is not about being above people. It is about being willing to stand for people, serve people, develop people and sometimes make the difficult decisions others may not be willing to make,” Lt. Ebony Dailey said.
