MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The Montgomery Zoological Society received a big donation Friday from Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama.

HMMA officials were on hand to present a check for $25,000 to zoo officials.

The donation helps support the Montgomery Zoo’s efforts to enhance educational programs, conservation initiatives and visitor experiences.

“The Montgomery Zoo is not just a place to observe wildlife, but a place where families gather to develop a deeper connection to wildlife and conservation. It’s a center for education, research, and inspiration,” said Tommy Treadwell, HMMA Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. “We are honored to continue our support of the Montgomery Zoo today with a contribution of $25,000 to the Montgomery Zoological Society.”

Montgomery Zoo Director Marcia Woodard says the money will go a long way to help improve the facilities.

“We’ve been getting support from Hyundai since 2008 and getting this generous donation of $25,000 helps us to continue a lot of our projects,” said Woodard. “These funds are going towards our capital improvements of building a reptile facility, so this is a very large donation that we hope will go towards us reaching our goal and breaking ground.”

The Montgomery Zoo is getting ready for its annual Zoobilation. It will take place on September 17. Money raised from it will also benefit the reptile facility. For ticket information, click here.
