Officer hit by gunfire, suspect killed in Marengo County
MARENGO COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – An officer has been hit by gunfire while a suspect was killed in a shooting in Marengo County.
According to ALEA, at about 6AM yesterday, officers with the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Task Force tried to serve an arrest warrant on a suspect wanted for a murder that happened in the 100 block of Ruby Drive in Pine Hill.
When they arrived, ALEA says an officer from the task force was hit by gunfire. Task force officers returned fire and killed the suspect, 47-year-old Ernest Christopher Nathan.
The officer was taken to a hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
The U.S. Marshals Service has asked the ALEA State Bureau of Investigation to investigate the shooting, which is standard procedure when an officer is involved. The findings will be turned oer to the Marengo County District Attorney’s Office.
