ONLY ON 8: Preview of the Great Alabama 650
ONLY ON 8 (WAKA) – Action 8 News has once again partnered with Alabama Scenic River Trail to bring you daily coverage of the upcoming Great Alabama 650 race.
The country’s longest solo paddle race gets underway on Saturday, October 3. Some of the best paddlers from across North America and Europe will be in Alabama for this competition.
The 650-mile journey starts at Weiss Lake in Northeast Alabama and ends at Fort Morgan on October 13.
Racers will face whitewater, tidewater currents and traverse around nine dams in the adventure-style paddle race.
Racers will have up to ten days to finish the race and secure a first-place win in one of three divisions: male solo, female solo and two-person team.
Spectators can follow virtually at AL650.com, where a live map will report up-to-the minute updates on the racer’s progress.
