Flush with laughs: “Urinetown” takes the stage at Cloverdale Playhouse in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) — Looking for a laugh this weekend? A musical comedy about a city where private toilets are outlawed is taking the stage at the Cloverdale Playhouse.

“Urinetown: The Musical” opens Thursday, Oct. 8, and runs through Oct. 18 at the theater in Montgomery.

The satirical musical is set in a dystopian city suffering through a 20-year drought. A severe water shortage has prompted the government to ban private toilets, forcing residents to pay steep fees to use public facilities controlled by a single corporation, Urine Good Company, or UGC.

Director Adrian Lee Bush and actor Tony Davison recently sat down with Action 8’s Estee Morrison to discuss the production and why they believe the musical offers audiences a hilarious escape from everyday life.

“Urinetown: The Musical” runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

The Cloverdale Playhouse is located at 960 Cloverdale Road in Montgomery.
