FEMA trucks in position at Maxwell Air Force Base for hurricane response

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. (WAKA) – The Federal Emergency Management Agency has 150 trailers in place at Maxwell Air Force Base as part of its response to Hurricane Isaias.
The trailers are filled with emergency relief supplies, such as water, meals and generators.
Action 8 News was on base today to see the trailers. Col. Mike Gallucci, the commander of the 42nd Air Base Wing, says the base is always ready to help.

“This is a critical partnership that we have with FEMA, a long-standing partnership. It gives them the ability to stage upward of 150 trailers, millions of pounds of life-saving equipment that they can get out to the region during the recovery phase of this storm. The strength of the partnership in the River Region community is highlighted prior to an incident like this where the preparation is done so we can have these trucks staged so we can be prepared to respond to any incident,” he told Action 8 News.
Col. Gallucci says over the last 24 hours, he’s met with community leaders from the city, county, state and federal levels to continue to remain laser focused to ensure the safety of the local communities.
