Damage reports begin, utility crews start power restoration following Hurricane Isaias
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Thousands of people across South and Central Alabama are waking up without power Saturday morning.
The outages come after Hurricane Isaias left behind downed power lines, fallen trees, and damage to homes and businesses.
In Montgomery County, major roadways are being blocked by downed trees and power lines
The Montgomery County EMA says US Highway 80E is being impacted by a downed tree and power line. Old Selma Rd from Wells Rd to Davis Road is also being blocked by fallen trees and power lines. They’re awaiting power companies to come in and clean up those areas.
There are also a couple of minor roads affected throughout the northern part of the county.  Crews are out working all sites.  All roads are cleared and open in the south half of the county.
In Troy, Mayor Jason Reeves announced that early Saturday morning, crews were beginning to mobilize to begin assessments and repairs.
Meanwhile in Prattville, the city says trees and power lines are down in the area of Selma Highway/ Washington Ferry and Cobblestone Curve.
The Covington County EMA says effective Friday night that all county-maintained roads and bridges are considered impassible and that residents shouldn’t travel. Hazardous conditions may make roads and bridges unsafe.
Local leaders and police are encouraging people to stay home if at all possible so that crews can work efficiently to restore power.
