Troy University fraternity suspended for hazing incident

TROY, Ala. (WAKA)- Troy University officials say a fraternity on campus has been suspended, following an investigation into hazing.

Effective immediately, the Pi Kapp Phi chapter has been suspended and all chapter operations and activities have ceased.

Troy University police responded to an emergency call at the Pi Kapp House at around 11 P.M. Thursday, September 17th. Police say a student was transported to Troy Regional Medical Center for treatment and was released the following day.

The investigation concluded and evidence for potential hazing was turned over the university’s Student Services for disciplinary action. The chapter was found to have violated University policies and the national organization’s policies on hazing new members. The University notified the chapter on October 12 of their formal three-year suspension.

The university says the house will be closed and vacated by October 26th.

The University will assist students living in the fraternity house with relocating to other campus housing as needed.

“Troy University values Greek organizations, but we expect them to operate within the guidelines set by the University and their national organizations,” said Herb Reeves, Dean of Student Services. “The chapter’s actions were inconsistent with the standards and values of both the University and the fraternity and could have harmed those involved.”

The chapter will not be eligible to return to campus until fall 2029.
