New Selma Police Chief shares goals and expectations for SPD
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
Selma’s historic new police chief is speaking out about the job — her goals — and her expectations for the department moving forward.
Chief Ettice Brickus made history about three weeks ago — when she became the city’s first permanent black female police chief.

Brickus has been assessing the department — evaluating personnel — and getting acquainted with the Selma community.
She says she’s fully committed to improving the department. She shared her thoughts about concerns regarding a shortage of officers on the police force.
“I’d rather have a small percentage of officers that are fully committed to the mission than have several officers that are just here to get paid,” said Brickus.
“So, it’s not about the number of persons. It’s about what are we doing with the number that we have?”
Brickus served as the Chief of Staff at the Mongomery Police Department — before becoming Selma’s chief of police.
She also served 24 years with the Baltimore Police Department.
