Auburn’s Michael Johnson named SEC Golfer of the Week

AUBURN, Ala. (auburntigers.com)– All-SEC senior Michael Johnson has been named SEC Golfer of the Week for the first time of his career after tying the third-lowest 54-hole score in school history at 14-under 66-68-68—202 at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate as he won medalist honors for the second time this season and fourth of his career.

“It’s a great honor to be SEC Golfer of the Week,” Johnson said. “I’ve always wanted to win the award. It’s extremely difficult to win it because the conference is filled with great players. Hopefully I can win the award again this season.”

Johnson has finished in the top-20 in each event played this season including four top-5 finishes: 1st at the Primland Collegiate, 2nd at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate, t-5th at the U.S. Collegiate Championship and 1st at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate.

Johnson, who leads the team with a 69.00 stroke per round average, is GolfWeek’s No. 2 rated collegiate golfer and is a member of the Haskins and Ben Hogan Award watch lists.

The Birmingham, Ala., native has carded a team-best eight rounds in the 60s this season.

Auburn will play host to the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner held at the Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, Ala., March 6-8
