AU’s Kasey Cooper named SEC Player of the Week
AUBURN, Ala. (auburntigers.com)– Junior Kasey Cooper has been named the SEC Player of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon. Cooper provided excellent offensive and defensive production all week for the No. 3 Tigers and helped the team roll to a 5-0 record while outscoring the competition 55-2 and improving to 15-1 overall on the year.
The two-time All-American was a menace at the plate last week carrying a .438 average with seven runs, 11 hits and 11 RBI over five games. The Dothan, Ala. native also hit three home runs during the span to give her 42 for her career tying the program record (Mary Petrie, 1998-2001).
The junior third baseman was equally impressive in the field as she played error-free softball all week long and made several highlight reel plays. She set a season high with six assists against Boston College and ended the game by laying out for a line-drive catch and doubling off the runner at first base.
Cooper has now reached base safely in all 16 games this season for the Tigers and also leads the team with nine multiple RBI games this season.
This is the first time Cooper has earner SEC Player of the Week honors and her third overall weekly award from the conference. She was twice named SEC Freshman of the week in 2014.
