“The Beast” keeps R.C. Hatch state title dreams alive, 59-57 over Ider
BIRMINGHAM, AL (ahsaa.com) — R.C. Hatch senior center Ka’Lasha Patterson’s rebound and put back with five seconds remaining Monday night lifted the Lady Hornets to a 59-57 victory over Ider in the semifinal game of the 2016 State Basketball Finals at the BJCC Legacy Arena.
R.C. Hatch (23-6) advances to Friday morning’s Class 2A championship game to face Samson (32-2).
The game will tip off at 9 a.m. The 94th annual AHSAA State Finals got underway Monday at the BJCC in Birmingham. Classes 3A and 4A play Tuesday, Classes 6A and 5A play Wednesday and Class 7A plays Thursday.
The Class 1A girls’ and boys’ finals will be Thursday afternoon at 4 and 5:45 p.m., respectively.
Classes 2A, 3A and 4A play girls’ and boys’ championships Friday beginning with the R.C. Hatch-Samson contest. Classes 5A, 6A and 7A will conclude the State Finals Saturday with girls’ and boys’ championship games.
Patterson finished with 14 rebounds and 14 points for Coach Willie Morgan’s Hornets from Uniontown. Miranda Jones added 18 points and Alaysia Norfleet had 13. Ider (24-9), coached by Mark McMahon, was paced by Dani Townsend’s 23 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Culpepper added 14 points and Morgan Flynn had nine.
