Lady Eagles to face Lauderdale County in 3A state final

BIRMINGHAM, AL  (ahsaa.com) —– Montgomery Academy downed Brindlee Mountain 39-32 Tuesday in the Class 3A girls’ semifinal game of the 2016 State Basketball Finals at the BJCC Legacy Arena.
The Lady Eagles, making their fifth trip to the BJCC in seven seasons, are advancing to the state finals to face four-time defending champion Lauderdale County. It is the Lady Eagles’ first trip to the championship game under Fencher’s direction.
Kayla White scored 15 points to pace Montgomery Academy (27-4), which reeled off 11 straight points in the third period to break a tie game open.  White also had eight rebounds. Jade Brooks added seven points and nine rebounds and Caroline Kirkman also had nine rebounds.
Brindlee Mountain (26-8), making its first State Finals appearance in school history,  was led by Emerald Rush’s 10 points and 11 rebounds.  Courtney Yarbrough added eight points and 14 rebounds. Coach Kelly Robinson’s Lions managed 21 offensive rebounds and 39 overall.
The 3A girls’ finals will be Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the BJCC.
The 1A girls’ and boys’ finals will be Thursday at 4 and 5:45 p.m. respectively.  Classes 2A, 3A and 4A play girls’ and boys’ championships Friday while the State Finals conclude Saturday with Classes 5A, 6A and 7A championship games.
