Muscle Shoals buzzer-beater edges Carver 46-45 in AHSAA 6A semi’s

BIRMINGHAM, AL  (ahsaa.com) — Muscle Shoals sophomore guard Riley Wolgamott’s lay-up just before the final buzzer gave the Trojans a 46-45 win over defending Class 6A state champion Carver-Montgomery in the 6A semifinal game of the AHSAA State FinalsWednesday at the BJCC Legacy Arena.
The Wolverines (27-4) took the lead with 11 seconds left when Antonio Nelson was fouled attempting a 3-point shot and made all three of his free throws to give Carver a 45-44 lead.  Muscle Shoals inbounded the ball and Wolgamott got off his final shot just before time expired.
Coach Neal Barker’s Trojans (21-10) move into Saturday’s 6A state championship game Saturday at 2:15 p.m. at Legacy Arena. Wolgamott finished with six points and nine rebounds. Calvin Bak led the Muscle Shoals scoring with 18 points – including four 3-point goals.  Braxton Winston also had nine points and nine rebounds and Dwain Smith had four assists.
Carver, coached by James Jackson, was led by Nelson’s 18 points. He sank three treys and was 5-of-5 at the foul line. Xavious Turner added seven points and five rebounds, and Darian Adams scored six points and dished four assists.
The 6A girls’ finals will precede the boys’ finals Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the BJCC.
The 1A girls’ and boys’ finals will be Thursday at 4 and 5:45 p.m. respectively.  Classes 2A, 3A and 4A play girls’ and boys’ championships Friday while the State Finals conclude Saturday with Classes 5A, 6A and 7A championship games.
