Auburn to Swim for 200 Freestyle Relay Title
ATLANTA, GA (auburntigers.com) – Auburn will swim in the championship finals of the 200 freestyle relay after Peter Holoda, Michael Duderstadt, Zach Apple and Jacob Molacek qualified seventh in a time of 1:17.16 during prelims of the 2016 Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday morning at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatics Center.
Auburn narrowly missed out on two other championship finals as Joe Patching will be the top seed in the B Final of the 200 IM after tying for the ninth-fastest time in prelims at 1:42.63 and Peter Holoda tied for eighth in the prelims of the 50 free in 19.18. Holoda was one of three to touch in that time, requiring a three-way swim-off. In the swim-off Holoda dropped his time to a personal-best 19.13, which is the eighth-best time in school history, but it was not enough to get him into the Championship Final as he finished third of the three swimmers. Kyle Darmody will also swim the B Final after a 19.48 placed him 16th in the morning.
The swimmers will close out the night in the B Final of the 400 medley relay after Kyle Darmody, Duderstadt, Hugo Morris and Holoda touched in 3:06.86, 11th-best in the morning.
Finals begin at 5 p.m. CT.
