thumbnail (3)Senior Political Adviser Rebekah Mason announced she is resigning, and a lawmaker is calling for Governor Bentley’s impeachment.

This comes one week after the alleged affair with Mason and Governor Bentley was made public.

The governor apologized for making what he calls “inappropriate comments” to her, but he maintains there was no physical sexual relationship.

Political analyst Steve Flowers says Mason stepping down may help ease things at the Capitol.

“It’s probably a good move for both of them because people who come into meetings would almost snicker because it’s known that she’s in every meeting. At at least if she’s not there, they may assume that Bentley has some kind of authority as governor,” said Flowers.

State Representative and fellow Republican Ed Henry says he plans to introduce to legislation to impeach Governor Robert Bentley, when the session resumes next week.

However, Flowers says he doesn’t expect it to have much traction in the legislature because he doesn’t think he did anything illegal.
