Badgers blank Golden Tigerettes 7-0
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) — The Spring Hill College Badgers used a strong pitching performance and power to overcome Tuskegee University, 7-0, in the finale of their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series Monday morning.
Spring Hill (27-12, 15-0 SIAC) scored three runs in the third inning – all on solo homeruns – to take the lead for starter Caroline Sagrera (15-7), who did not allow a hit until the sixth inning with two outs.
Tuskegee (10-25, 8-4 SIAC) battled with Spring Hill for the first two innings before back-to-back homeruns by Lauren Stewart and Taylor Lahasky off Lady Golden Tiger starter Toni Beth Garner (2-7) gave Spring Hill the lead. They extended that lead to three when Kali Clement hit the third homerun of the inning.
The Badgers added four more runs in the top of the fifth inning to pull away for the series win.
Sharde Thomas finished off an impressive week by breaking up the no-hit bid of Spring Hill’s Sagrera in the sixth inning, with a two-out single through the left side. The Lady Golden Tigers other hit in the contest came off the bat of Kaylin Finch in the seventh inning, while Haley Plato reached on a walk earlier in the contest.
Tuskegee returns to action Wednesday afternoon, hosting the University of West Alabama in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
