Gilchrest t-1st, No. 6 Auburn t-4th after Hootie at Bulls Bay 2nd round
AWENDAW, S.C. (auburntigers.com) – All-SEC junior Matt Gilchrest is tied for first after the Hootie at Bulls Bay second round carding a 1-under 71 on Monday at the Bulls Bay Golf Club for a two-day 8-under 65-71-136.
Gilchrest, who birdied Nos. 4, 11, 12 and 14 on the day, is tied with South Carolina’s Keenan Huskey for a three-stroke lead over Austin James of Charleston Southern and Will Zalatoris of Wake Forest, who are both 5-under 139.
No. 6 Auburn shot a round-best 7-under 281 to climb four spots and tie with Charleston Southern for fourth at 4-under 291-281-571. The Tigers are 11 shots off leader No. 17 South Carolina (15-under 561).
All-SEC senior Michael Johnson used a 2-under 70 second round with four birdies and an eagle on No. 10 to climb 17 spots and tie for 13th at 1-under 73-70-143. All-America sophomore Ben Schlottman climbed 27 spots with a 3-under 69 to tie for 25th at 1-over 76-69-145.
Senior Jake Mondy and freshman Graysen Huff each gained 18 spots with a 1-under 71 and are tied for 45th at 4-over 77-71-148.
No. 13 Wake Forest is in second at 7-under 569 followed by College of Charleston (281-571), Auburn, Charleston Southern, Missouri (289-573), Wofford (284-576), No. 20 Duke (288-577), Kansas (289-580) and North Carolina State (298-587).
Troy is 11th at 14-over 590 followed by Wisconsin (287-592), Kentucky (292-592), Maryland (293-592) and Akron (300-596).
