ATLANTA, GA (goldentigersports.com) — The Tuskegee University track and field programs ended a successful week with a pair of student-athletes named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) field athletes of the week, announced by the conference office Wednesday morning.
Vincent Williams, a freshman from Memphis (Tenn.) was named the male field athlete of the week after he won his third event of the season, and his second consecutive event this past weekend at the Cougar Classic. The freshman just missed his PR in the shot put where he recorded a toss of 13.49 meters (44 feet, 3 ¼ inches) to win the event. He finished second in the discus with a throw of 34.92 meters (114 feet, 7 inches). Last weekend was the best finish for the freshman this season with two top-three finishes.
Cheyanne Williams, a junior from Troy (N.Y.) was named the female field athlete of the week after she finished fifth in the shot put with a distance of 10.35 meters (33 feet, 11 ½ inches), finishing just 0.16 meters out of fourth in the event. The distance is a season-best for Williams, beating her distance of 10.16 meters set last week at the Emory Classic. She also finished eighth in the javelin with season-best throw of 22.86 meters (75 feet) and 12th in the discus with a toss 28.80 meters (94 feet, 6 inches).
