Holiday Weekend Big Boost For Lake Business

Hundreds of boaters took to the water this weekend on Lake Martin, helping boost businesses that were banking on the holiday.
Â
For many businesses out on the lake, business has been building and building but they’ve really been looking forward to this Memorial Day Weekend.Â
Â
It’s hard to look out on the lake and not see a boat streaking through the water.
Â
And that kind of traffic has kept the Kowaliga Restaurant full through the entire weekend.
Â
Servers say Sunday is going to be the biggest day of the holiday weekend, but things have been going pretty well for the business.
Â
“Business has been picking up every week. Seems more people on the lake as each week progresses. This is generally the kick off for summer, but we’ve been steady for the last month or so,” said Russ Bodner, executive chef.Â
Â
Things have been going very well next door at the Kowaliga Marina. The business holds over 300 boats and most have hit the water this weekend. Justin Howard says this weekend has been a huge change from the last couple months.Â
Â
“Night and day difference. This last few months have been terrible for us. We’ve still had a few boat sales but everybody is ready to get on the water and have a good time. And we’re here to provide that service,” said Howard.
Â
And that service is expanding. Howard has been working at the marina for the last five years and he’s seen business get better and better each year.Â
Â
“We’re building a brand new service center over there, storage facility over there. We just got done moving service into another building over there. We got wet slips are full combination at the marina. We can do whatever you need to do down there,” said Howard.Â
Â
Both the restaurant and the marina expect business to continue like this through the summer.Â
Â
Kowaliga Restaurant expects to serve around 5 thousand people over the holiday weekend.Â
