Alex City Police Officer Cleared in Shooting

The Alexander City police officer who was involved in the shooting death of a man outside of a restaurant has been cleared of charges by a grand jury.
The Tallapoosa County District Attorney said that some witnesses in the case committed perjury due to video evidence.
The incident happened March 8th at the Huddle House on Highway 280.  The officer’s vest camera shows the officer approaching the vehicle that the victim, 21-year-old Emerson Crayton, was in.  It shows Crayton apparently trying to run over the officer.  The officer then shot and killed him…Â
Paul Jones, the Tallapoosa County District Attorney says, “What I didn’t see – a single action he took that deviated from the policy of the police department or that deviated from good common sense. To be quite frank with you I have to say that I am amazed that he was able to react so so quickly.”
Â
The District Attorney says this was the first time he has released video evidence of this nature. Â He also says there will be an ongoing investigation into the witnesses who he says lied about their stories.
