According to the IRS website, there is a 400 percent surge in phishing and malware incidents this tax season.
Tax Revenue Commissioner Julie Magee says you need to be aware of anyone demanding your money.
“I want people to know that no government agency, the IRS, the State Revenue Department, will ever contact them by phone and demand payment for anything,” said Magee.
Magee says if you do suspect you have been scammed, contact your local police.
If your identity has been stolen, you can go ahead and fill out an affidavit on the tax revenue website. For more information about the scams, click here.
