Weather concerns prompt AU’s Equestrian celebration to Tuesday
AUBURN, Ala. (auburntigers.com) – The national championship celebration for the Auburn equestrian team has been moved to Tuesday, April 26, because of possible inclement weather tonight.
The celebration will take place at Toomer’s Corner prior to the Auburn baseball team’s 6 p.m. CT game vs. South Alabama. The national championship presentation will begin at 5:15 p.m. and toilet paper will fly following. Fans in attendance will be encouraged to head to Plainsman Park after the festivities.
Auburn captured its fourth National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) national championship this past Saturday in Waco, Texas. The top-seeded Tigers defeated No. 6 TCU in dramatic fashion, topping the Horned Frogs 8-7.
The Tigers earned three of four Most Outstanding Performer awards following the championship match. Senior Elizabeth Benson was honored for her performance in Equitation on the Flat, while freshmen Caitlin Boyle and Blair McFarlin took home top honors in Equitation over Fences and Reining, respectively.
Benson (Flat), Ashley Foster (Flat), Boyle (Flat and Fences), Hannah Loseke (Horsemanship) and McFarlin (Reining) were placed on the NCEA All-Championship team.
In addition to its national crown, Auburn also captured the program’s first Southeastern Conference championship back in March. Overall, the Tigers finished the season with a 16-1 overall record.
