Three People Sentenced to Life in Prison

Judge Johnny Hardwick had a busy day of sentencing today as he handed out life sentences to three people today.

District Attorney Daryl Bailey announces that 26-year old Marquis Cheatham of Montgomery and 24 year old Dominque Atkinson of Wilmington, NC were sentenced to Life in prison today by Judge Hardwick.

Both Cheatham and Atkinson were convicted earlier this year for the murder of 20 year old Ashley McCarthy of Montgomery.

Cheatham, who was an active duty Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, was married to the victim. He, along with his girlfriend Atkinson, drove from NC to AL to murder McCarthy. They put her in the trunk of a car but she was able to escape. They hunted her down and shot her multiple times, including in her back, killing her. The fatal shot was an execution shot to the head.

District Attorney Bailey stated “I am very satisfied that these killers will spend the rest of their lives in prison. The terror that they inflicted on this victim is unimaginable. We should all breathe a sigh of relief that these two have been removed from our community.”

In another case, District Attorney Daryl Bailey announces that 25-year old Courtney Fuller of Montgomery was sentenced to Life in prison today by Judge Hardwick.

Fuller was convicted for the murder of Brandon McClain in March of this year by a jury. McClain was murdered on his 25th birthday on May 13th, 2014. Fuller and McClain got into an argument at a gas station on Forbes Drive when Fuller pulled out a handgun and shot McClain four times including once in the back. McClain was unarmed and had asked the clerk to call the police prior to the shooting. The clerk refused to call the police because Fuller was her cousin. That is when McClain left the store and was shot trying to get away from the Defendant.

District Attorney Bailey stated “Justice was served today. I am satisfied that this violent criminal will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Montgomery is a safer place without him.”
