Body of 15-Year-Old Recovered from Coosa River

 

According to deputies, it happened just after 12:30 Wednesday afternoon. Rescue crews say the teenager was swimming with a group of friends when he apparently injured himself on a rock and went under. His friends and a passing kayaker tried to help him, but rescue crews say the strong current swept him down river.

 

Dive and rescue teams from Elmore, Autauga and Montgomery Counties searched for hours before recovering the body just before 6:00 Wednesday evening. The teeanger’s name has not been released, but officials confirm he was a student at Wetumpka High School. Several friends and family members at the scene said he was on both the wrestling at football teams.

 

Officials say the body will be taken for an autopsy. They do not suspect foul play, but say they are taking the extra measures because of his age.
