Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy is Retiring from the Force

The announcement is official… Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy is retiring from the force.
We brought you the news first on Friday when Chief Murphy told us he was retiring from the police force. But in a joint conference with the mayor he made it official but also said and quote: “it is not my wish to retire at this time.”
Chief Murphy was appointed in February 2011. He was put on leave on June 13 shortly after his twin brother’a death. But since then questions have been raised about his leave. Mayor Strange says they had a differences of opinion going on about things going on at the police department. He says they related to expenditures, management style and authority issues. Strange says former and current officers have also called to talk about incidents that created a hostile work environment.
The mayor says Murphy will officially retire on sept 30. Until then he will be left on paid administrative leave. But Murphy did close in saying he’s not done yet… That it won’t be the last time we see him.
