Murphy vs. Murphy– After Montgomery Police Chief’s Forced Retirement

Murphy vs. Murphy. We are continuing to follow the aftermath of Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy’s forced retirement.

We talked to both Chief Murphy and Director of Public Safety Chris Murphy in our studio about this decision on Wednesday.
Chief Kevin Murphy says he would like to have a public forum to address some of the issues that were brought before the mayor about his leadership.
But Director Chris Murphy says that was already done on Monday at the Mayor’s press conference.

Chief Kevin Murphy tells us, “I don’t fear the truth. And don’t fear the light shining on any decision or action that I did as police chief of this city. So I welcome an open public forum to discuss all the issues.”

However, Director Chris Murphy says. “They’re not personal. They’re not conflicts between individuals. They’re about leadership. And it’s my job as director of public safety to advise the mayor what the conditions are and I believe the conditions were overwhelming that we needed to change leadership and move forward.”

Chief Murphy is on paid administrative leave until his retirement date of September 30th.
