Twenty-two people graduated from the Citizens Police Academy Tuesday night.

It’s an eight week course conducted by the Montgomery Police Department. They help the citizens get a better idea of what the police department does each and every day. One of the graduates says he went on a ride along to a shooting Friday night, and it really opened his eyes.

“What we don’t look out for is the parents. People need to be on the scene to listen to the parents. The parents have a scream that shocks everybody. Young people need to understand you ought not to want your mom to go through that. You ought not want your grandmother to come out on the scene and see your brother laying there. Everybody ought to be your brother’s keeper now and try to tell somebody we ought not to be doing this killing. We ought to be picking up a book and be reading,” said Citizens Police Academy graduate, Michael Jackson.

This class was one of the largest classes the program has seen.
