It may be more than just rumors. Murphy tells Alabama News Network that yes, he is considering running.

“There’s a lot to consider,” he says. “That’s a huge step in someone’s life and there’s a lot to consider when making a decision like that.”

Murphy says he’s worked in the public sector for 30 years and wants to continue working there.

“Montgomery is my home. I have no intentions of leaving. I love the people of this city and my wife and I have talked about it, we’re not going anywhere.”

Murphy appears to have a lot of support.  Facebook pages titled “Draft Kevin Murphy for  Mayor” and “Impeach Mayor Todd Strange” have recently popped up. And some Montgomery residents want Murphy to run.

“I feel like that’s a great idea,” says LaCorry Martin. “If tha’ts what he really wants to do, go for it. “

“He probably don’t remember me but I knew him when I worked at Burger King on Madison,” shays Montgomery resident Kimberly Gunn. “He and his brother used to come in on motorcycles on their coffee breaks and they were good guys.”

As for if Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange will seek reelection, he tells us he’ll make the decision next March.

“It depends on what’s happening, how I feel, what my family says, what the medical situations are,” he says. “So you never can say you’re not. “
