Alabama News Network gets an exclusive sneak peak into the new Carmike Movie theater on Chantilly Parkway. You may remember, this is the theater that will serve beer and wine.
Now, we get to see exactly how that will work.

The new Carmike Cinemas will sell beer and wine to movie goers…and here’s where. This bar in the lobby will be specifically for those sales. General Manager Tony Sellers tells us it will closely regulated.

“What we will have is a separate dedicated line just for this area,” he says. “There also will be a mechanism that will be used to detect fake IDs and any type of altered IDs. Also, we’re going through a complete alcohol control plan with our attendants, to make sure they can spot and recognize anybody that doesn’t appear to be of age.”

Eight ounce and 16 ounce beers will be sold along with glasses of wine. You can only buy one drink at a time and three drinks total. A wristband will be required to keep track. Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange says he expects the theater to adhere to all Alcoholic Beverage Control Board rules.

“It will be extremely safe for adults and children alike and obviously, because this is the first, the ABC board as well as the city will watch it very closely.”

Aside from beer and wine sales, the movie theater will also have other ‘firsts’ for Montgomery, including a popcorn factory.

“Over here there’s going to be attendants that serve you your popcorn. Napkins, butter, everything is self serve over there.”

The new Carmike Theater will also host the ‘Big D’ Digital Experience. A theater with 561 luxury seats, that boasts a giant screen.

“What we have behind us is going to be the second largest screen in the southeast,” he says. “This screen is going to be 81 feet from left to right, three stories tall.”

The next largest screen that matches this one is in Los Angeles. The theater will host 13 screens total.

The theater is now scheduled to open July 25th.
