Possible Passenger Railroad Coming to Montgomery

You might have another way to get around the state of Alabama, and that way is by train.

It’s all part of a new private passenger rail that’s setting up shop in Montgomery. The goal is to connect cities across the state, like Birmingham, Huntsville, and even as far down south as Pensacola.

Amtrak already operates in a small part of the state, but the new corridor rail company wants even more opportunities for train travel in Alabama.

Officials say, some people have not had the opportunity to come to the Renaissance Hotel or for people that do come for association meetings, or if they come to a baseball game, it may be easier for them to hop on the train from Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, or the panhandle. It’s all about economic development

The goal is to have the rail ready within the next two years.
