Pike Co. Schools to Decide Future of Old Shellhorn School

Shellhorn School in Pike County has been closed for nearly 30 years, but that hasn’t stopped people from trespassing.

The building was used for storage after closing but due to vandalism, that has stopped and trespassing problems continue. Superintendent Mark Bazzell says trespassers have used the facility for parties and camping out. He says it’s becoming a liability for the board and leaves them with 2 options unless the public has other input.

“For us to contract with somebody to demolish the facility and clean up the site. The second option would be for us to have someone burn the building as part of a training exercise,” says Bazzell.

If you’re interested in giving input about what should be done with the building you can contact the Pike County School Board at 566-1850.
