Old Depot Museum Hosts Rail Safety Event in Selma
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
June is Rail Safety Awareness Month and Alabama Operation Lifesaver and the Alabama Department of Transportation are criss-crossing the state holding events to spread the word.
The Old Depot Museum hosted one of the train safety events in Selma Wednesday.
There were free hot dogs, train rides and some other safety exhibits.
Organizers say the event is a fun way to spread a serious message.
“We really feel like if we can get the message to children at a very early age then that’s something they can grow up with and always remember to be careful at crossings, said Alabama Operation Lifesaver Executive Director Nancy Hudson.
“We like to think of it as a family day too, that the family can come and have a good time.”
Similar events have also been planned for Calera, Tuscumbia, Foley and Sylacauga.
