Attack in Nice hits close to home for some in the River Region
The attack in Nice, France is affecting people in the River Region with close ties to France. A group dedicated to sharing the french language and culture is speaking out.
French native Benedicte Retrou-Brown is still in disbelief after the attacks.
“I was just in shock,” she said, “I could not believe it.”
Her friend Patricia Crowley has visited France numerous times and remembers the street where the attack happened.
“In that promenade where normally there are sidewalks and people strolling and lots of lots of traffic, there’s bodies covered by sheets,” she shared.
Retrou-Brown says she will not be returning to France to visit family this year.
“I’m not going this year, I’m scared,” she explained, “I don’t want to take the plane…we are not going to France this year.”
The group is also trying to plan a memorial for the victims of the attack but have not yet finalized the details.
