Montgomery Woman Sentenced to 125 Days for Animal Cruelty

AP_10042013327 (1)A Montgomery woman has been sentenced to 125 days behind bars for the death of her 3-month-old puppy last month.

Court records show 23-year-old Jessica Pruette was found guilty last week of cruelty to animals.

Montgomery Humane Society Officer Robert Bryant said he went to Pruette’s home June 1 after receiving a tip about a dead puppy in a backyard.

Bryant says it appeared the pit bull had been strangled to death. He says the animal was left unattended on a slip leash and that the puppy’s tether was found wrapped around a stick.

Bryant says the dog also had no access to water or shelter on that hot day.

Humane Society investigator Denton Hawk says they are still awaiting necropsy results.
