VA Employee in Alabama Charged with Sexual Abuse

A Veterans Administration employee is charged with sexual abuse of a mentally disabled volunteer.

Federal court records showed Tuesday that 44-year-old Eric Allen of Auburn was being held on a charge of sexual abuse. He was arrested Friday based on an investigation by the VA. He is accused of sexually abusing a female volunteer with Downs Syndrome in a restroom at the Tuskegee VA Medical Center on Aug. 8.

Allen’s court-appointed attorney was out of the office Tuesday and not immediately available for comment.

The arrest follows a series of troubles for the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System, including altering appointment records to mask how long veterans wait for appointments and not reading hundreds of X-rays.
