Tallassee City Council Approves Money for Theatre Restoration Project

Efforts to renovate and reopen a historic Tallassee theatre are getting a boost from the city council.
Last week the council voted 4 to 3 to give $20,000 for the Mount Vernon Theatre project.
The 80-year-old building has been closed since the 1960s, but now volunteers want to bring it back to life. Most of the historic facility is in good shape, but the building needs major upgrades to be in line with current safety and fire codes.
Volunteers have been raising money for their $430,000 goal for almost a decade..
They hope to open the theatre within a year.
