MPS School Board Member Charged with Assault

Lesa Keith says her stepdaughter filed a police report against her after an altercation became violent.

“I thought that I could change a young lady that had drug problems and drinking problems. And I failed,” said Montgomery County school board member Lesa Keith.

Keith sums up the situation that has led to her turning herself in on assault charges.
It all stemmed from an incident on June 21st when she says she had to break up a fight between her stepdaughter and her boyfriend.

“And she said some pretty horrible things and I slapped her. All I can say… That’s what happened,” said Keith.

That’s when things escalated.

Her stepdaughter, Brooke, who is actually a family friend Keith took in as a troubled 12 year old, did not want to go on camera. She sent pictures of her injuries.
She stated that Keith punched her and gave her a bloody lip.

But the charges didn’t come until recently.

Keith says her stepdaughter filed the report in “retaliation” because Keith called DHR saying her stepdaughter’s baby was in danger.

“Any mother to turn somebody that you love in…. It’s very hard… but you have to look at a baby and give it a chance,” said Keith.

Keith says this is about right and wrong. And finally doing the right thing.

“This is a baby’s life. I love her. I still love her. This is humiliating, but it’s also real,” said Keith.

Keith will appear in court October 17th. MPS had no comment on the charges.
