Nastasia Kossacky competing at World Amateur Team Championship

AUBURN, Ala. (auburntigers.com) – Auburn freshman women’s golfer Nastasia Kossacky is competing at the World Amateur Team Championship this week, which runs WednesdaySaturday in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Kossacky, who came to Auburn from San Diego, Calif., is representing Team Poland at the event. A total of 55 countries are competing for the Espirito Santo Trophy, awarded to the team champion over the 72-hole event.

The competition is taking place at the Mayakoba El Camaleon Golf Club and Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club, both of which are set up at par 72. Australia is the defending champion, winning the 2014 event in Japan.

This is Kossacky’s third appearance at the World Amateur Team Championships, previously appearing at the 2012 and 2014 events. Kossacky also represented Poland earlier this summer at the European Ladies Team Championship in Iceland.

Conducted by the International Golf Federation, the World Amateur Team Championships are a biennial international golf competition that rotates among the three geographic zones of the world: Asia-Pacific, Americas and Europe-Africa. Each team has two or three players, who each play 18 holes of stroke play over four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round.
