Former Tallassee Police Officer Indicted for Assault

annmaptallassee.jpgIn March 2016, an agent with the Tallassee Police Department, Brandon Smirnoff, was assisting other officers on a pursuit of a ATV, which attempted to allude officers. The vehicle was eventually stopped and the driver was taken into custody.
It was at this point while the individual was being transported back to a patrol vehicle, that he alleges that Brandon Smirnoff used force which exceeded that which was necessary.
After evidence was obtained by State Bureau of Investigations to indicate policy violations by Smirnoff, he was released by the Tallassee Police Department.
The case was presented to Tallapoosa County grand jury, and on Tuesday, September 13, Tallassee police department was notified that Smirnoff was indicted by that grand jury for Assault.
Smirnoff turned himself in on these charges to the Tallapoosa County Jail and is now released on bond to await trial.
Brandon Smirnoff had been an officer with Tallassee Police Department for approximately 2 years.
