Local Reaction to NFL’s Ray Rice Domestic Violence Incident

It’s the shocking video that is the topic of water cooler conversations across the country.Â
NFL player Ray Rice’s football career is in jeopardy now after video surfaced of the domestic violence incident he had with his then fiancee.
The video that was first captured by TMZ sports shows Rice hitting his then fiancee Jamay Palmer and knocking her unconscious.
It happened in an elevator at the Atlantic City Casino in February.
Since that video has come out, Ray Rice has been let go from the Baltimore Ravens.
And, Tuesday, he was suspended indefinitely by the NFL.
Rice says he regrets his actions.
And Palmer, Rice’s now wife, says taking away football from her husband is “horrific”. She also says making them relive a moment they regret is a “horrible thing.”
We want to know if you think he should lose his career over this incident.
Alan Dykes says, “I think the Ravens have the authority to fire him / drop him. But I don’t think the NFL should have suspended him for life.”
Mark Grey McDonald says, “There are NFL players who have committed murder and are still playing. Domestic violence is absolutely intolerable. I, however, do not feel he should lose his career over it. I feel like that’s taking it too far.”
Â
 Â
Billy Shirley says, “Somebody has got to be punished to set the standard for everyone else . If the NFL says 0 tolerance then let it be absolutely 0 tolerance.”
  Â
Bill Stringer says, “He needs to be held accountable for his actions, he needs to be fined and do jail time, after he does these things let him play but with probation, if it happens again he should be banned for life, being a great football player does not exempt him from the law.”
As for the video, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says the league asked for the video but it was not released to them immediately.
Goodell says he did not see it until recently.
