Waiting on Cold Front

It has been oh so hot the past few days, and we are looking at one more day of well above average temperatures as we anxiously await that first true front of the fall season that will bring refreshing air into the state. Today is going to be a hot day, with lower 90s in many locations. We note the front is in Alabama, close to the Interstate 20 corridor. Along and out ahead of the front, we will be watching for showers and storms this afternoon, but no severe weather, just scattered storms, that will be capable of producing lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall. We sure do need the rain, but unfortunately, it looks as though most of us will be staying dry as there is not a lot of moisture for the front to work with.

SLOW FRONT: As stated above, the front is into Alabama and should continue to slide towards the southeast through the state. It has lost it’s forward push and has slowed down between Birmingham and Montgomery, as it has lost its upper-level support. Tomorrow, will likely start off with lingering early morning clouds and perhaps some showers, but slowly through the day, the sky will clear from northwest to southeast as drier air moves into the state. Through the day, humidity levels will be on the decline too. With a clearing sky, tomorrow and heading into tomorrow night, you will really notice the difference early Thursday morning, with a low in the mid and upper 50s for most places; colder pockets across North Alabama could reach the upper 40s. Thursday will be sunny with a high in the low 80s.

FINALLY FEELING LIKE FALL: A reinforcing shot of cooler and much drier air arrives late Thursday and Friday, pushing highs down into the upper 70s and lower 80s, while lows will remain well down in the 50s. Expect abundant sunshine, low humidity and overall downright awesome weather as a true hint of fall will be in the air. The good news is the pleasant autumn weather will continue into the weekend, with sunny days and fair nights. No risk of rain through Sunday, which is the only bad news in the forecast as rainfall deficits continue to grow.
