Man Charged With Murdering Children Won’t Appear in Court

The South Carolina man investigators say led them to the bodies of his five children in Wilcox County will not appear in court Friday. Timothy Jones, Junior was supposed to make his first appearance in a Lexington County, South Carolina courtroom.
On Friday morning, attorney Aimee Zmroczek said his lawyers will raise concerns about his mental health. In court documents, Jones claimed appearing in court would undermine his ability to receive a fair trial and potentially taint the jury pool.
Attorneys would not elaborate on what mental health problems Jones may have.
Jones is accused of killing his five children, then driving around for days with their decomposing bodies before dumping them in a wooded area near Camden.

Zmroczek says Jones has been held in isolation under suicide watch. Lexington County authorities say they will transfer Jones to a state prison, likely on Friday. They say they fear for his safety if he is in the Lexington County jail with other inmates.
