Alabama Quarterback Competition Continues, Fans Weigh In

Alabama is heading into its third game of the season but Nick Saban has still not named a starting quarterback for the season.
Both Blake Sims and Jacob Coker have got some playing time in, so which of the two do fans want to lead their team this year?

Alabama fans are anxious to know who will be their quarterback for the season. Head football coach Nick Saban has yet to name one and has played both 5th year senior Blake Sims and Florida State transfer Jacob Coker in the first two games. Some say they’re ready for one of the two to get the quarterback position, full time. Alabama fan Randy Foster says he’d like Blake Sims to start.

“All around he’s a better athlete, a better quarterback,” he says. “And he’s been in the system for five years, unlike Jake Coker. You can’t just come in and learn a system like that in less than a month or two.”

But others say Jacob Coker is the better quarterback. Dan Harrison is a Florida State fan and says Coker would perform better long term.

“I really think that he did the right thing in getting transferred because he was behind another great guy that he wasn’t going to get much playing behind,” he says. “I know Sims has got a history with Alabama but I think Coker will turn out to be their quarterback.”

Some fans want Saban to use both Sims and Coker throughout the season.

“Sims is doing good,” says Allen Little. “He’s a real smart quarterback. He’s got us where we are now and Coker, he’s got a good arm on him…just needs a little bit more practice time.”

“Switch them out periodically because they both have their strengths and weaknesses,” says Park Crossing High School lineback Veric Lang.

Though some believe only one man should get the job.

“If he didn’t start at Florida State, I don’t think he’ll be able to start here,” says Foster.

Nick Saban says he will again use both Coker and Sims against Southern Miss tomorrow.
