Staying Dry and Unseasonably Warm
THE FIRST WEEK OF OCTOBER: The trough that brought the awesome autumn weather is lifting out and a ridge builds in for the week ahead. With the ridge, we are going to see moderating temperatures and lower 80s are expected for the week ahead. It unfortunately stays dry, but at least humidity levels stay down. By the end of the week, a trough develops east of the Rockies and will be moving east across the U.S. This trough should bring a surface front into the Southeast on Friday, and that could lead to a few showers, but the air mass will be moisture deprived so widespread rain is not in the forecast.
HURRICANE MATTHEW: Latest update from the NHC, the center of Hurricane Matthew was
located near latitude 15.2 North, longitude 74. 9 West. Matthew is moving toward the north near 6 mph. A general northward motion with some increase in forward speed is expected through Tuesday. On the forecast track, the center of Matthew will approach Jamaica and southwestern Haiti tonight, and eastern Cuba on Tuesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 130 mph with higher gusts. Matthew is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some fluctuations in intensity are possible during the next couple of days, but Matthew is expected to remain a powerful hurricane through Tuesday. The estimated minimum central pressure based on reports from NOAA buoy 42058 is 943 mb (27.85 inches). The good news is that Matthew is no threat to Alabama, but by the weekend, interest along the Southeast Coast (the Carolinas) should keep an eye out as Matthew is likely to make landfall there.
WEEKEND SNEAK PEAK: The front will bring a new air mass into the state and that should yield another round of refreshing fall air into the state. Rain does not look to be a threat and we are going to see temperatures fall into the lower 80s for highs and 50s for lows. A very nice weather pattern is expected but still no real threat of rain.
Have a marvelous Monday and a great week ahead!!!
Ryan
