Very Warm Days Ahead, Big Changes by the Weekend

CONTINUED WARM AND DRY: A ridge of high pressure builds across the Deep South for the first half of the week and temperatures will continue to be well above average. Through midweek, highs will be in the upper 80s, while lows will be in the 60s. Several spots will touch 90F this week as well. Expect mainly sunny and dry conditions, but the winds are change are going to start blowing.

RAIN IN THE FORECAST: That ridge will break down by the end of the week, and showers and thunderstorms return to the forecast as potent cold front decides to dive south. Thursday and Friday will feature more clouds than sun, and scattered rain showers. Temperatures go from the 80s Thursday to the 70s on Friday, and continue a downward trend for the weekend. No soaking rains, and certainly not drought busting, but scattered showers could yield rainfall totals of around half an inch, which is not enough, but beneficial and much needed.

MUCH COOLER WEATHER AHEAD TOO: A big weekend in the state next weekend as both Alabama and Auburn are hosting SEC foes, and NASCAR returns to Talladega for the Alabama 500 Sunday. For the weekend, after the clouds and rain Friday, the weekend should feature a drier air mass and a much cooler one as well. Saturday expect a clearing sky with a high in the lower 70s. And, for now, Sunday promises to be mostly sunny with a high in the mid 70s. Early morning lows should be in the 40s, certainly some chilly weather for the state.
