Nice Week of Weather, Drought Conditions Worsen

What a wonderful fall weekend of weather across the entire state! Cool temps and sunshine made for terrific weather for all the football games and races this weekend, unfortunately no rain, and we need it so desperately as drought conditions continue to worsen across the state. For the week ahead, the chance of rainfall is not looking very promising either.

Back to work today, it is another chilly start to the day with a wide range in temperatures from upper 40s to a few upper 30s out there. Certainly grab a jacket this morning, but like yesterday, expect a quick warm up by this afternoon under plenty of sunshine. A few upper-level cirrus clouds will cross the Alabama sky today, but those will not be impacting the temperatures, and most of us should be in the lower 80s today, which is a bit warmer than Sunday.

REST OF WEEK: Little change in the forecast as mainly sunny and dry weather continues. There is the slightest of chance of a passing shower overnight Wednesday and into Thursday. Another upper level shortwave and associated frontal boundary passes by, but with very limited moisture in place, there is not really enough of a chance to mention and get your hopes up. So it is the standard October forecast; mainly sunny warm afternoons, with cool and clear nights through the work week. Highs each day will be in the lower to mid 80s. Overnight lows will moderate this week, going from the widespread 40s this morning, to well into the 50s later this week.

THE FINAL WEEKEND OF OCTOBER: More of the same weather is the forecast for the weekend. Expect sunny days with highs in the lower and mid80s, and night will be mainly clear with lows in the mid to upper 50s. Still no threat of rain at this time.

FOOTBALL FORECAST: For those high school games Friday night, the weather will be mainly clear and dry. Temperatures at kickoff in the 70s, falling into the 60s by the final whistle. Not nearly as cold this week as last week.

Auburn is on the road this week as they head to Oxford, MS to take on the Ole Miss Rebels for a 6:15PM kickoff. Great weather for northern Mississippi on Saturday. Rain is not in the forecast, and after highs near 80°, temperatures should be 70° for kickoff, dropping though the 60s during the game under a clear sky.

Alabama is off this week.

HEADING INTO NOVEMBER: For next week, we are still looking to stay dry and temperatures will remain above average. The long range guidance late last night, is not showing any real threat of rain the first week of November. The GFS tries to show a storm system around the 7th or 8th of November, but as of now, we can only forecast that the long dry spell will continue.
