Record Warmth Ahead; Future Forecaster Camron Cleveland

TODAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Sunny, dry, and near record warmth will highlight the forecast this final weekend of October. Each day will feature abundant sunshine, no threat of rain, and highs during the afternoon in the upper 80s, which will be making a run at those records. Lots of outdoor events happening this weekend, and the weather will be cooperating for those, it will just be very warm.

DROUGHT MONITOR: The latest U.S. Drought Monitor indicates that drought conditions have continued to worsen across Central Alabama during the past week. The entire state of Alabama is now suffering under at least severe drought conditions. Much of the northeastern quarter of the state of Alabama is in extreme or exceptional drought and these are the highest level of drought conditions. Along with the dry ground conditions, much of the ground cover such as grasses have gone dormant, so with the low humidity levels, we have prime conditions for wildfires. According to the Alabama Forestry Commission, there have been 910 wildfires in the last 24 days. The northern two-thirds of Alabama is under a “No Burn Order” that was declared on October 12.

FOOTBALL FORECAST: For those high school games tonight, the weather will be mainly clear and dry. Temperatures at kickoff in the 70s, and falling into the 60s by the final whistle.

For Saturday’s Magic City Classic in Birmingham (Alabama State vs Alabama A&M… 3p CT kickoff), the sky will be sunny with temperatures falling from near 85 degrees at kickoff, into the 70s by the fourth quarter.

Auburn is on the road as the head to Oxford, MS to take on the Ole Miss Rebels for a 6:15PM kickoff. Great weather for northern Mississippi on Saturday with no rain. Temperatures should be in the mid 70s at kickoff, dropping though the 60s during the game under a clear sky.

Alabama is off this week.

HOT HALLOWEEN: 90° was the hottest temperature on Halloween for the city of Montgomery in 1984, temperatures will be very near that this year. Expect a sunny and dry day, and the good news is that rain will not hinder those witches, ghosts and goblins as they are out and about during the evening hours; temps should be in the 70s by then.

INTO NOVEMBER: November will start off the way October ends, dry and very warm as highs will remain in the 80s through midweek. Towards the end of next week, the models are hinting that a trough could start carving out the ridge in place and that could mean our rain chances may be on the way up and cooler weather returning, and I sure hope so!!!
