School Board Meeting Turns Ugly During Public Comments

The board of education met tonight but it wasn’t just any other school board meeting. Tempers flared and two public speakers had to be removed by security.
Â
The meeting took a turn for the worst during the public comments portion. That part allows anyone to sign up to speak on whatever topic they’d like. That’s when all order got lost. If you’d like to speak to school board members, you’re given five minutes to do so if you sign up the night prior to the meeting.
If you sign up the day of, you’re allowed three minutes to speak.
The set time limits didn’t sit well with some, who went over their allotted time.
After shouting matches between speakers and board members, security escorted two speakers out of the room.
Superintendent Margaret Allen tells us not all issues can be resolved immediately and says she still encourages people to come speak to the board about what concerns them.
